Menari was impressive throughout his two-year-old campaign and is set to return to action on Saturday after being included in 2017 The Rosebud nominations by trainer Gerald Ryan.
Debuting for a smart win at Randwick on January 14th, Menari placed a close second behind Pariah in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) and resumed from a freshen-up to finish fifth in the Group 3 Todman Stakes (1200m) on March 4th.
Third past the post in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 18th before being relegated to fourth on protest, the Snitzel colt failed to fire in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and was sent to the paddock.
Menari has trialled exceedingly well in the lead-up to his competitive return and should prove extremely difficult to beat in The Rosebud.
Diamond Tathagata is another horse that has not been seen at the races since autumn, but has trialled well and is primed for a big first-up performance in The Rosebud 2017.
The Hinchinbrook colt ran second behind She Will Reign in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) on debut in December, before resuming this year for a smart win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) on February 25th.
Finishing mid-pack in the Golden Slipper before a lacklustre run in the ATC Sires’ Produce most recently, Diamond Tathagata led home an impressive field in a Randwick barrier trial including Winx on July 24th and is primed for a big first-up run.
Siege Of Quebec faces a step up in class into this likely Rosebud field, but has been outstanding in his two starts to date and is a live chance of a maiden black type win in the race.
Winning three barrier trials prior to making his competitive debut, Siege Of Quebec was taken to the lead by Brenton Avdulla on debut at Newcastle on June 27th and never appeared in doubt; hitting the line comfortably in the clear of his rivals.
Leading again in the #TheRaces Handicap (1400m) on July 15th, the Fastnet Rock colt was joined in the final straight by classy colt Calculated, but mustered an impressive kick to re-open a gap of half a length.
Only three fillies; Delight, I Am Excited and debutante Readycatgo have been included in The Rosebud nominations.
The Rosebud final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
