Multiple Group 1 winner Le Romain remains a clear $2.20 favourite in 2017 Missile Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Tycoon Tara ($4.80), Jungle Edge ($6.50), The Monstar and Invincible Gem; currently sharing the fourth line at $9.50 quotes.

Will Le Romain justify favouritism and win the 2017 Missile Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Le Romain ($2.20)

A proven first-up performer, Le Romain returned to racing in career-best form in autumn and should prove extremely tough to beat in the Missile Stakes. Taking out the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) first-up, the Hard Spun gelding beat Chautauqua on the line in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) before finishing second to Winx in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m). While failing to fire in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), Le Romain returned to the paddock after finishing second in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) and is reportedly primed for a big run on Saturday.

2nd

The Monstar ($9.50)

The Monstar has a fitness edge on most of this Missile Stakes field, has been racing extremely well and is over the Missile Stakes odds at his current quote. Taking plenty of benefit from his first-up run in the Group 1 Doomben 10,0000 (1200m), the California Dane gelding placed third in a Randwick 1100m sprint before taking out the Listed June Stakes (1100m) on June 10th. Second in each of the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) and Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m), The Monstar has trialled well in between runs and is drawn ideally in barrier 5.

3rd

Jungle Edge ($6.50)

The wetter, the better for Jungle Edge and if it pours down in Sydney tonight, the gelding should prove extremely tough to run down in the Missile Stakes. The Dubawi gelding also found career-best form during the autumn and winter and was placed at Group 1 level three times. Adding wins in both the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1300m) and Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) to his CV, Jungle Edge will have no problem taking up the running from barrier 4 and will be partnered by regular hoop Kevin Forrester.
