It is shaping up as a likely wet edition of the $1 million Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on a Heavy track in Sydney on Saturday, which impacts betting on the three-year-olds’ classic.

Due to jump as Randwick Race 7 at 4:10pm (AEDT), a final field of 14 gallopers is currently engaged for the mile showdown.

There could be some key scratchings from the Randwick Guineas field however with the rain, track conditions and the running of the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes in Canberra on Sunday.

Currently it is Waller’s half-brother to champion racehorse Criterion, Comin’ Through, who leads Randwick Guineas betting at $4.60 and firming through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Last weekend at the track Waller’s superstar mare Winx blitzed her title defence in the Chipping Norton Stakes on a mud track.

That is something the punters are hoping Fastnet Rock colt Comin’ Through can emulate this Saturday jumping from barrier four with the ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira coming on for the ride.

The breeding suggests that Comin’ Through, winner of the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) over this distance in Melbourne during the spring, will handle the wet track.

The extra distance will also suit after his brave third when under a length beaten last start in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m), a race that has produced six of the past seven Randwick Guineas winners.

It is an open edition of the Randwick Guineas and there are a further five horses under double-figures for the win in the latest markets including Man From Uncle ($6) and Inference ($6.50).

Man From Uncle suffered an early blow drawing wide out in gate 13 as the Anthony Cummings-trained son of Uncle Mo chases a third win on the trot this time in.

His latest success was the narrow victory over Echo Effect (2nd) and Comin’ Through (3rd) in the Hobartville Stakes on February 18.

How Man From Uncle goes in the wet and at his first 1600m run will be key to his chances, but he continues to improve each time to the track and jockey Jason Collett will be doing his best from the wide alley.

Inference jumps from barrier 11 with jockey Tommy Berry chasing his first Randwick Guineas winning ride on the weekend aboard the Hawkes Racing-trained galloper.

The stable prepared the 2007 Randwick Guineas winner Mentality, while co-trainer John Hawkes previous prepared a further four champions of the race between 1996 and 2004.

So You Think colt Inference has had three runs on Soft tracks for two wins and will eat up the metres having run third at Flemington in last year’s Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).

He comes off a first-up fifth in the Hobartville Stakes and could surprise at a nice price second-up.

Other single-figure fancies include the Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon ($7.50) in the outside barrier, the Hobartville Stakes runner-up Echo Effect ($8.50) coming off three top three runs this campaign and the filly Invincible Gem ($8.50) after her fourth win on the trot.
