There are just three runners in the Ladbrokes Stakes 2016 betting markets and field, but is Winx really a sure thing as the markets on the Caulfield Guineas Day clash suggest?

Chris Waller’s recently crowned Australian Racehorse of the Year has won her past 11 starts on the trot and this Saturday has scared off all but two rivals as she looks to extend her streak in the $600,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m).

It is the daughter of Street Cry’s first Melbourne run of the season and her lead-up run before defending her crown in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 22.

Waller and jockey Hugh Bowman both shoot for their first win in the Ladbrokes Stakes – formerly the Caulfield Stakes – but everything points to a win for the dynamic duo and their star mare on Saturday.

Winx was last seen saluting at $1.08 in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and she is nearly a similarly record short starting price in the latest Ladbrokes Stakes odds at the race sponsor paying $1.20 for the win at Ladbrokes.com.au.

She jumps from barrier three, but all the form lines and stats go out the window with just a trio of starters when doing the Ladbrokes Stakes tips this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

All that stands in her way on Saturday are rivals Black Heart Bart backed in from $5.50 to $4.60 and He Or She ($31), and the Caulfield track.

Winx is yet to have an official start at the course and Caulfield has been the undoing of some other former genuine turf stars including the mighty Kingston Town.

He too headed to the track on the back of an 11-straight winning streak in the 1980 Caulfield Stakes before things came undone and he ran second to Hyperno.

Of course he came back and won the next two editions in 1981 and 1982, but still the magic of the winning streak was ended in that fateful 1980 event.

So will Winx fall into the same trap or will she get around Caulfield as well as she has all others and continue her dominance?

There’s little reason to go through the Ladbrokes Stakes tips, it is all about Winx in this race.

Rival hoop Brad Rawiller on the Darren Weir-trained Black Heart Bart, coming off a Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) win at the track, hopes for an upset.

It is looking unlikely however.

Black Heart Bart will be up front and leading them around, but Winx should have plenty to run him down.

The order of the odds look spot on and jockey Craig Williams will be crossing third on the Lindsay Park-trained Underwood Stakes runner-up He Or She to round out the trifecta.
